Our Story

2018 - The Beginning

In the year 2018, community volunteers identified a need – newcomers from African descent were facing several settlement challenges. Many of these challenges, communication barriers, accessing services, racial discrimination, employment readiness, access to the right information and so on, are difficult for newcomers to overcome without any assistance.

And so what started out as information and Q&A sessions to bridge these gaps to help newcomers transition, integrate and settle, quickly became an established organization now known as Peculiar Connect.

Peculiar Connect is an outreach arm of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Peculiar People’s Parish (popularly known as PPP) in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. We are a non-profit organization that offer settlement and integration services to newcomers who have chosen Saskatchewan as their new home, particularly immigrants of African descent

According to a recent Canada Census, approximately 13 per cent of newcomers are from Africa. This placed Africa – after Asia and Europe – as one of the main continents for recent immigrants in Canada
